Where is the best place to plant Liatris?
Being a native plant, Liatris prefers to grow in full sun but will tolerate some light shade. It does best in well-drained soils and does not like wet feet, especially during the winter months. Basically, it will thrive in most garden settings.
Will Liatris come back every year?
Flowers usually appear the first year, approximately 70 to 90 days after planting, and the plants will return to bloom again for years to come.
Does Liatris spread quickly?
Liatris can spread by seed, but not agressively there, either. If more plants are desired you can split/divide the plants once they are large enough. Placing a bunch of stalks, with mature seeds, on the ground and leaving them over winter will usually produce a bunch of new seedlings, too.
What are the cons of Liatris?
Liatris doesn't have any major pest problems, but it is sometimes plagued by leaf spots, rusts, powdery mildew, white mold, and Verticillium wilt. Proper plant spacing will help prevent these problems by allowing for sufficient air circulation and sunlight to reach your plant.
